The PlayStation 5 isn't the only Sony console getting a firmware update today. Yes, the PS4 has also received its latest system software, taking it to version 9.50. This new patch is ready to roll, available to download right now.
Weighing in at 492MB, what does this PS4 firmware update do? Well, this update is mainly concerned with parties, giving you more control. You'll be able to set up an open or closed party; the former lets friends join as they like, and people on their friends lists can join too. The latter is invite only. Additionally, you'll now be able to change the volume of each player's voice chat individually so you can get that balance right.
Here are the official patch notes for PS4 version 9.50:
In Party, we've updated the following:
- Now when you start a party, you can select either an open party or a closed party.
- An open party lets your friends join without an invite. Friends of party members can also join.
- A closed party is only for players you invite.
- You can now individually adjust the voice chat volume of each player in a party.
Other updated features
- We've added Ukrainian language support.

I.... have to keep my eyes on my PS4 Slim storage as I have 155 GB remaining from 500 GB model.
After downloading this firmware I can’t access online play at all 🤔
@Matthoppy12 I'm seeing multiple reports of this, also on PS5.
Uh-oh.
@Voltan it won’t give me the option of going back to 9.03 either 😡
@Matthoppy12 Happened to my brother so your not the only one
@Matthoppy12 I don't think you can access online features if you're not up to date anyway, so going back would fix nothing.
Let's hope they handle it swiftly.
Hopefully in the coming months for the next update for VRR will be very soon. Be nice to play Elden Ring at a smooth 60
@Matthoppy12 Yeah, my PS5 won't log in to Elden Ring's servers now, it just comes up with a message saying "Could not verify PlayStation Plus Subscription"...
It seems like nearly everytime Sony do a firmware update they manage to screw it up 😔
Me too. I'm locked out. Told me to buy another ps subscription, conveniently haha
Glad to know I’m not the only player having PS Plus troubles now after the software update
Yeah I can't play anything online now. The update ruined online services.
I can see all the servers in the game but just connect
GTA Online is also a no no because of this.
Ok, so it's a good thing I paused the update it seems to be causing so much problems for a lot of people, what is going on?
Before the update I couldn't go online as well in UK.
PSN is down in UK and some parts of France ATM.
Just thought to livestream RDR2 online. Setup everything and now sitting like a fool.
This is taking the piss a bit it says everything is up and running when i test psn services i have only just renewed my psn plus on the 17th of march extended to 17th of april strange thing is i can download the free monthly ps plus games but can't play them online or any other game
@xIFoxHound 60 is already smooth... it's the 40-59fps that vrr helps with
Can’t even install the update on my PS4 Pro, keeps giving me an error message immediately when it goes to install then redownloads the update
@xIFoxHound VRR doesn't affect framerate, it just helps with screen tear. The fps is exactly the same, and if it was 60fps you shouldn't have screen tear anyway.
@Matroska Yeah I didn’t say that it did. It just gives the illusion of a smooth frame rate. The game will still be dropping frames but you won’t perceive it if you have a VRR Capable TV
Says I don’t have ps plus but when I look at my subscription it says it’s active till July doesn’t make any sense
This update is garbage. Last time they messed up the update and for comoesnation, they offer us some free bunk avatars.. This time I say we all email then and request 6month extension to our memberships to keep us as customers otherwise I'll be switching to Microsoft.
@Voltan yup you're right. You're basically forced into it, then bricked ur system for the (how manyeth) time🙄smh
@Matthoppy12 going back won't help you'll be forced to update in order to log into your psn
2 PS4 Pros updated without any hitch...
Updated here in Czech Republic. Gran Turismo is now offline 🤨 ah well its sunny here outside and I have been playing too much so I'll go for a walk. 👍👍🙂🙂
Whoops I might be wrong as I was in the middle of a championship race.....and its letting me carry on. Anyway its walking time. 👍👍
Yes my mistake I was locked out of other races because I was in the middle of a Championship. 🤭🤭
I'm in Canada and just updated my PS4 Pro without any issues.
I get it, we all support the Ukrainians. But really, adding a language support that should have been there from day 1. I'd honestly would prefer more software upgrades such as a better integration of streaming services or faster load times or a menu revamp or menu graphics/wallpaper or something
I had the beta installed & my game kept crashing I don't know if it was the game or the system I'm hoping it won't crash anymore with this update
@HR7 I'd like it if you could have multiple external hard drives connected at once instead of having to switch which ones active
Won’t even let me download the update. I get an instant error message and can’t sign in to the network without updating or vice versa. So I can’t do anything now.
I won't be able to download the update until Saturday night, but thanks for sharing!
